Loam and Lichen

"Loam and Lichen" is a watercolour landscape rendered in a loose, atmospheric style with a quiet and contemplative feel. A low dark band of land stretches across the horizon, above the sky is a wash of soft and misty pale blue-grey tones bleeding gently into one another.
 
Below the horizon, muted earth colours - beige, grey and hints of rust spread across the foreground, textured by the papers grain and scattered speckles of pigment. The brushwork is fluid and restrained, with blurred edges and subtle contrasts emphasising mood over detail.
 
I used high quality, lightfast watercolour paints on archival, pure cotton Arches watercolour paper. The painting is presented in a black frame with a modern feel.
